A Boot You can SInk Your Feet Into

I looked a long time to find some new black boots to replace some worn out discontinued Fryes that I loved (except for a zipper that broke at least 3 times). I had a very difficult time. There's the twin, related issues of style and price. As usual, when I picked out what looked the best, I discovered they were the most expensive. (An unfortunate, unintended propensity of mine.) I went to several stores, and shoes size doesn't matter. One shoe's 10 might be another shoe's 9 1/2, and widths vary as well.

The Toloni was the best overall boot I found in the under $150 price range, and for the style I sought (not too Western; dressy, but fine with jeans; not too many gimmicks or hardware; easy to take on and off, but snug). It has a stylish, unfussy look. I suppose it wouldn;t have hurt to add a few more contour/stitching lines, but it certainly is not drab or boring. The leather is soft and supple; it flexes right back after you press it down. One boot I tried (the Macy's house brand) just left a depression where I pushed down on it. The inside is also soft, and very comfortable, and the current sale price (under $100) cannot be matched. However, I'd pay the non-sale price too because of the overall look, comfort, and materials. If the zipper on these Rockports starts to break as on my old Fryes, you'll hear about it here.

I decided that at 54 it was about time to get a pair of boots like the ones I had in college, brown, side zipper.

I got the dark brown and I love them! Very comfortable, just what I wanted. I forgot how much I used to love to wear these kinds of boots (I've been wearing Rockport shoes for years now).

So anyway, I'm back to get another pair!
Comfortable and stylish, but stretches out.

For Rockports, which one always associates with dads and other non-stylish people, this boot is pretty cool. It's also comfortable for a stylish boot. You wouldn't want to run a marathon in them but you can definitely walk around for extended periods and not be in agony. Rockport does know comfort.

However, they seemed to stretch out quite a bit after a few months of normal useage. I had to buy insoles for them to fill up the extra space. Kind of annoying but overall I'm happy with them and I'd buy them again.
loopy boots

Not a "great" boot but acceptable for the discounted price I paid. Only the uppers are leather, the rest of the boot is "man-made" materials. The leather loop at the rear of the boots causes pants to hang up on the loop when you stand up. You can just cut this flush or it cost me $4 to have the shoe repair guy open the seams and resew them with the loop down inside.
Somehow not as good as the brown version

It's weird, I have the brown version of this boot as well and I love them. The black boot though somehow just looks bigger, clunkier, and far less dressy. Otherwise a great fitting and comfortable boot, but I'll look elsewhere for my next black dressier boot.
